Robert oversees and manages the RBC Venture Partners' portfolio on behalf of Clairmont Capital. Robert joined RBC Venture Partners as a Managing Director in 2004 and led direct investments in a broad range of software and technology companies ranging from enterprise software to information security and from insurance applications to sales and trading platforms. Robert also used his expertise in venture capital to assist in the development and commercialization of emerging technologies developed within RBC.
Prior to RBC, Robert was a Vice President at BMO Nesbitt Burns Equity Partners and Executive Director of CIBC Capital Partners’ Silicon Valley office in Menlo Park where he collectively made investments in financial services software, internet service providers, enterprise and internet software, e-healthcare, wireless application development, security products, optical networking and semiconductor companies, among others. Robert served as a board member or observer for several of his investee companies
Additionally, Robert has a broad base of transaction and industry experience as a capital markets professional.
Robert’s charitable activities include being on the board of the Distress Centres of Toronto. Other professional activities include numerous panel appearances, speaking engagements and advisory boards.
Robert has a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a Certified Investment Manager.
Robert is on the board of directors of Placemark Investments, Infobright Software, Varicent, Verafin, and VM6 Software.
Derek Blazensky is a founding partner of Cardinal Venture Capital. He focuses on investment opportunities in software for wireless and mobility as well as the new software paradigm for the enterprise: software-as-a-service.
Prior to forming Cardinal Venture Capital, Derek managed venture investments for Adobe Ventures. His portfolio companies included Tumbleweed Communications (Nasdaq: TMWD), advanced email solutions for business communications and AvantGo, a mobile Internet company acquired by Sybase.
Derek sits on the boards of Cardinal portfolio companies Adaptive Planning, GuardianEdge Technologies, Nimblefish Technologies and deCarta.
Derek received his B.A. from Fairfield University and his B.S. in Engineering & Computer Science from the University of Connecticut.
Jerome Engel has a long history of building successful high potential ventures, both as an entrepreneur and as a venture investor. In addition to his role at Monitor Venture Partners, he is also on the faculty of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley where he serves as Executive Director of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, which he founded, and as Chair of the Haas School's Entrepreneurship Program. Engel serves on the boards of directors of Jupiter Systems, MedAmerica and Electrascan.
Terry Opdendyk has specialized in working with technology based start-ups for more than 30 years. He founded ONSET Ventures , a premiere Silicon Valley venture capital firm, in 1984. He is Managing Director and General Partner at ONSET.
Prior to launching the firm, Terry was president of VisiCorp, guiding the software publishing company from inception into an industry leader. Early in his career, Terry worked as a technical manager for Hewlett-Packard as a part of the original group of individuals that started HP's computer business. He later headed Intel Corporation's microcomputer systems business, microprocessor architecture activities, several international ventures and human resources.
At ONSET Ventures, Terry maintains a broad spectrum of investment interests including software, communications and new drug delivery technologies. He serves on the boards of both public and private companies, such as Arcot, APX, Callidus, Nextance and Adaptive Planning.
One of Terry's passions is teaching. He works with students each year at the leading business schools, focusing on the fundamentals of building successful businesses. He currently is a Fellow at the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Haas School of Business, University of California.
Terry received a B.S. from the Michigan State University Honors College and a M.S. from Stanford University.
Ken is a seasoned entrepreneur and executive who brings vision, strategy, and leadership to the Adaptive Planning board. He is a budgeting and planning pioneer who brought automation to the process in his years at Pillar Corporation.
Ken is currently the Founder and CEO of ExpertCEO, an exclusive online community for CEOs and other senior executives. Previously, Ken was the founder and CEO of numerous information technology companies including Seriosity, Extricity, Pillar, Documentum and Ross Systems. He has also served as a board member and CEO Coach for a variety of companies including Savvion and Electric Cloud. Ken was a General Partner at RRE Ventures, where he headed the firm’s Silicon Valley office.
Ken received his BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Stanford University.
