Adaptive Planning Installation FAQ for LInux
I. What hardware and configuration might I need to install the system?
(1) Client
The client is the desktop machine from which an individual user runs their browser. It connects to the server machine which is running the Adaptive Planning software.
Minimum Hardware Requirements:
Processor: Intel (x86), 1GHz
Memory: 512MB
Software Requirements:
Windows operating system
Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater
(2) Server
The server is the machine on which the Adaptive Planning software is installed.
Minimum Hardware Requirements:
Processor: Intel (x86), 2GHz
Memory: 2GB
Disk space: 4GB
Software Requirements:
Novell SuSE Linux: 9.3 or later*
Oracle (Express**, Standard or Enterprise) 10gR2***
Java Runtime Environment for Linux****
Notes:
* Other Linux systems (with Kernel of 2.6.11 or higher) may also work; however, they are not currently officially supported by Adaptive Planning.
** If using Oracle Express, data must be kept within the 4GB limit imposed by Oracle Express Edition.
*** Please have the Oracle bin directory, the Oracle data directory, the Oracle SID, and the System user password available when starting the installer.
**** The file that will be downloaded is a jar file. A Java Runtime Environment is required to execute the file. This may be found at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. Go to downloads and look for the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). We recommend JRE 5.0 Update 7). There is no need for the large JDK (Development Kit which usually has NetBeans).
II. What is the installation process for Linux?
(1) Download Adaptive Planning Software
See XP instructions for download information.
We recommend you dedicate the server to the operation of Adaptive Planning. However, during your initial implementation phase or for smaller installations (up to 25 users) you may wish to install Adaptive Planning on an existing server that performs other activities.
(2) Run the Adaptive Planning Installer
Once you have successfully downloaded the Adaptive Planning software you are ready to run the Installer. The Installer is a jar file. To initialize the installation process, simply invoke the file either through the Linux SUSE interface or by the command java "filename.jar" with the downloaded jar file name as an argument.
The java program that runs is a straightforward wizard to lead you through the installation process. This wizard prompts you to provide information about the server and choose settings for the Adaptive Planning software application.
(3) Enter Oracle Information
You will be prompted to enter this information by the wizard.
- The Oracle bin directory.
- The Oracle data directory.
- The Oracle SID.
- The System User password.
This information is typed in as a response to the wizard at the appropriate time.
(4) Fiscal Year
To initialize the Adaptive Planning application we require your fiscal year information. The wizard will request the first month of the corporate fiscal year (e.g. January).
(5) Final Step
The wizard will prompt you to create your initial Administrator User. We recommend that you log in as this user only to create a user for yourself. Then, log back in using your new login ID to begin using Adaptive Planning (add other users, develop the budgeting/planning model, etc.).
The Installer will provide you with the opportunity to create your initial Administrator User. This Administration User's information will be used to login into Adaptive Planning and commence use (add other users, develop the budgeting/planning model, etc.). This information is simply an ID (normally corporate email address) and password. It can be used for initial login only and then adjusted to your preferences.
(6) Test and Begin
The set up process is now complete. Your Adaptive Planning application is available for use. From your desktop you should now able to access the Adaptive Planning application using the initial login. You should be able to immediately commence using our solution.
III. Why can't I change values on cells as soon as I am logged in?
Most sheets start in "View Rollups" mode. To change a cell, first click on the "Edit Plan" radio button.
IV. OK, I can log in and make changes; now how do I let other colleagues access my Adaptive Planning installation?
Use the administration tab to add new users. Decide what access rights you want to provide them. Consult the documentation for details.
Note that your colleagues will not be able to use the url: http://localhost:1712/app. Rather ask them to log in to http://yourmachinename:1712/app
where your YOURMACHINENAME is the one that is found by right-clicking on "My Computer" and choosing Properties, and noting the entry under "Full Computer Name".
V. Where can I get help?
Users can also contact Adaptive Planning via email at community@adaptiveplanning.com. Express Edition users can purchase standard or premium support. Contact sales@adaptiveplanning.com for details.
